On December 10, 2015, I hosted an episode of Complexity Talk Radio – Complexity Live titled Refusing to Settle: Setting High Standards and Expectations. The episode was part of the Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color Talk Radio Series (in celebration of the launch of the National Girls and Women of Color Council, Inc.). Ms. Sonia Renee Brown and I discussed the importance of refusing to settle, setting high standards and high expectations along three dimensions: personal, professional and social and their relativity to psychological, emotional, physical, and social well-being and growth. Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color Series

In celebration of the November 2015 launch of the National Girls and Women of Color Council, Inc. (NGWCC), Complexity Talk Radio – Complexity Live will host a series of talk radio shows under the Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color Series. The series will focus on various issues/topics concerning girls and women of color and will begin on October 1, 2015 and end on December 17, 2015. NGWCC decided to celebrate launching through a series of talk radio episodes in order to reach girls and women of color worldwide.

We are seeking panel guests for the Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color Series.  Accordingly, the National Girls and Women of Color Council, Inc. is extending an invitation to girls and women of color interested in joining one or more of the panels for thought-provoking discussions that will enlighten, lift, and inspire.

Please review the list of show topics below and if you are knowledgeable in one or more of the series’ topics and interested in joining this monumental history making celebration, please submit your bio, resume/cv, a description of your expertise in the topic, and the episode(s) of interest to panelguests@ngwcc.org.

To appear as a panel guest on Complexity Talk Radio – Complexity Live, we will call you from the dashboard at 7:50 pm EST and the show will air live at 8:00 pm EST.  Listeners will be able to call the show to ask questions, comment or share via the Listener Line. Panel guests will receive an outline of talking points (feel free to suggest specific topics for discussion) and a link to embed the archive(s) of each episode. Note: Guests must be available via landlines.  Cell phones cannot be used.

Nominate Extraordinary Girls and Women of Color

As we celebrate, embrace and empower girls and women of color, the National Girls and Women of Color Council, Inc. (NGWCC) and I Am Beautiful Global, Inc. are seeking nominations of girls and women of color who have and are making history as trailblazers and torchbearers in their own right.  Selected Nominees will be featured in the special thematic issue of the Journal of Colorism Studies (JOCS), Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color, under the section, Girls and Women Making History.

Nominees demonstrate character, commitment, perseverance, determination, strength and resiliency. They inspire and empower girls and women of color to achieve their dreams and to reach higher ground. Nominees may be students, parents, seniors, business leaders, lawyers, artists, writers, organizational leaders, administrators, educators, health workers, politicians, change agents, role models, mentors, clergy, founders, community activists/leaders, social workers, visionaries, volunteers, employees, etc.

We are very interested in receiving nominations of seniors who are unsung trailblazers and torchbearers within communities of color.

The deadline for submissions is August 30, 2015.  Please complete the Girls and Women of Color Making History Nomination (below) and submit to nominees@ngwcc.org.

Due to several requests, we have extended the Call for Submissions to August 30, 2015.  
In 2015, we are celebrating, embracing and empowering girls and women of color by launching the National Girls and Women of Color Council (NGWCC).  Accordingly, in collaboration with I Am Beautiful Global, Inc. and NGWCC, the Journal of Colorism Studies (JOCS) is inviting essays for a special themed issue of JOCS titled Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color.

Join us in celebrating, embracing and empowering girls and women of color. The special issue of JOCS will also be available for purchase in print through Complexity Publishing, LLC.  The online version of JOCS is available online and is free.

Call for Journal Cover Design

The Journal of Colorism Studies (JOCS) is calling all artists and graphic designers to submit a design with a brief description for the front and back cover of the special thematic issue titled Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color.The special thematic issue will be published in print and online.

Call for Cover Design Submission Guidelines

The Peer Review Board of JOCS will select the final cover. Please note that selection will be based on both the aesthetic quality of the cover design and the relativity to the issue’s theme Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color.

Cover designs that are not selected for the upcoming issues may be used for future journals.

There is no limit to the number of cover designs submitted for consideration.
